No. 9 Women's Soccer Defeats Salve Regina, 3-0

MIT extended its win streak to seven

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 3, Salve Regina - 0
 
- Records: No. 9 MIT (12-1-1, 7-0 NEWMAC), Salve Regina (3-6-4, 1-6 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field)
 
- The Lead: The No. 9 MIT women's soccer team used three second-half goals by three different goal scorers to defeat visiting Salve Regina, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers extended their win streak to seven and posted their eighth clean sheet of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After almost 60 minutes of scoreless play, graduate student Kaitlin Zareno (Los Angeles, Calif.) got a loose ball in front of the goal and put a shot just past the goalie at 58:03 to give MIT a 1-0 lead.
 
- Junior Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) directed the ball off her head to first year Katherine Ruan (Naperville, Ill.) who beat the goaltender at 74:47 to make it a two-goal lead for the Engineers.
 
- A few minutes later at 76:50, senior Victoria Ganeles (Armonk, N.Y.) sent a corner kick to the front of the cage where English got her head on it and put it in the goal to secure the 3-0 win for MIT.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Senior Morgan Everett (Danville, Pa.) improved to 10-1-1 with five shutouts as she made two saves in the game.
 
- English recorded her third goal and second assist on the season and sits tied for fourth with Ruan with eight points this season. Ruan scored her fourth goal of the year.
 
- Zareno notched her fourth goal of the season and is third in points with nine.
 
- Sabrina Lawless made nine saves in goal for the Seahawks.

- MIT out-shot Salve 27-3 and earned 11 corners to the Seahawks two. 
 
UP NEXT:

- MIT is back in action on Monday, October 16th for a non-conference match at Lesley. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
