- Location: Babson Park, Mass. (Hartwell-Rogers Field)

- The Lead: The No. 9 MIT women's soccer team had a flurry of late-game scoring chances, but could not complete a second-half comeback, as Babson handed the Engineers their first NEWMAC loss of the season with a 2-1 win on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Engineers looked to get on the board quickly with scoring chances from sophomore Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) and junior Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.), but their chances were turned away by Nora Ryan.

- Babson broke through with the first goal of the afternoon as Jordyn Ferrantino got a bouncing ball off a corner kick from Cassie Lawrence and put a shot into the far corner of the net at 33:29.

- MIT peppered Ryan with scoring chances early in the second half but could not find the back of the net.

- A penalty kick goal from Olivia Maltbie at 62:33 gave the host a two-goal advantage.

- First year Arianna Doss (Houston, Texas) took a pass from junior Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) and got past the Babson defense to put the ball past a diving Ryan at 76:41 to make it a one-goal match.

- Ryan and the Babson defense held off numerous Engineer scoring opportunities in the final 20 minutes of the match to secure the 2-1 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Doss notched her second goal of the year and English tallied her third assist.

- Senior Morgan Everett (Danville, Pa.) made four saves and fell to 11-2-1.

- Ryan made a career-high 12 saves for Babson and improved to 2-0-1.

- MIT held a 27-8 advantage in shots and a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Engineers also had an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
