No. 14 Women's Soccer Takes Down No. 7 Williams, 1-0

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 1, Williams - 0
 
- Records: No. 14 MIT (10-1-1), No. 7 Williams (7-2-2)
 
- Location: Williamstown, Mass. (Cole Field)
 
- The Lead: The No. 14 MIT women's soccer team took down No. 7 Williams 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Williamstown in a matchup of two top-15 teams. With the victory, the Engineers extended their winning streak to five and have outscored their opponents 17-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The two rivals played a scoreless first half as Williams held an offensive advantage with 10 shots in the first half while the Engineers took four shots in the half. Senior Morgan Everett (Danville, Pa.) turned away two shots on goal during the frame.
 
- Senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) broke the scoreless tie just 45 seconds into the first half as graduate student Kaitlin Zareno (Los Angeles, Calif.) set her up for her sixth goal of the season.
 
- Williams took three shots in the waning minutes, but the Engineers defense forced them wide as MIT held on for a 1-0 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Rowlett leads the Engineers and NEWMAC in points this season with 17. She is tied for the team lead with six goals on the year and ranks second in the conference.
 
- Zareno tallied her first assist on the year and is now third on the team with seven points.
 
- Everett made a career-high six saves to earn her eighth win and fourth shutout of the season.
 
- Williams held a 22-7 advantage in shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. The Ephs also had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks in the game.

- MIT will have a short break before returning to action on Wednesday, October 11th when the team will travel to Coast Guard for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
