The Lead: The MIT men's lightweight crew team kicked off the year by winning the Collegiate 8+ at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday. In addition, the Engineers' "B" boat was fifth while the Collegiate 4+ finished fourth.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Runner-ups last year to Holy Cross, the Collegiate 8+ "A" boat finished first in a time of 12:40.435, eight seconds ahead of the Crusaders. The 2V defeated most of the 1V boats and all the 2V entries except for Holy Cross, which edged out MIT by .846 seconds (13:19.131 – 13:19.977), resulting in fifth place out of 25 crews.
- In the Collegiate 4+, the Engineers logged a time of 15:45.520 for fourth place out of seven entries. The performance was three seconds behind third-place University of Rhode Island and almost 20 seconds ahead of fifth-place University of New Hampshire.
