Engineers Suffer 88-55 Setback to No. 2 NYU

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: No. 2 NYU - 88, MIT - 55
 
- Records: MIT (1-1), NYU (1-0)
 
- Location: New York, N.Y. (John A. Paulson Center)
 
- The Lead: The MIT women's basketball team went on the road to take on No. 2 NYU in the Scholars Classic in the John A. Paulsen Center on Friday night and the Violets defeated the Engineers 88-55.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT held the lead through the early portions of the first quarter. After NYU tied the game at nine. Junior Kamsi Nwogu (Algonquin, Ill.) and sophomore Alice Hall (Ambler, Pa.) converted back-to-back layups to put the Engineers up 13-9. NYU then went on a 10-0 run to end the quarter and take a 19-13 lead.
 
- The Violets continued to excel on the offensive side of the ball as they built a 20-point advantage over the Engineers in the second and eventually took a 50-20 lead at 6:02 in the third.
 
- Graduate student Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) hit a three to make it 56-33, but the Violets made their next two shots to go back up by 28, and NYU was able to keep MIT at bay the remainder of the game to take the 88-55 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Junior Angie Choi (Cypress, Texas) led MIT with 16 points while Nwogu had 13. Nwogu also grabbed a team-leading six rebounds.
 
- Antonakakis finished with nine points and two assists.
 
- Belle Pellecchia led all scorers with 15 points while teammate Morgan Morrison finished with 14 for the Violets.

MIT is back on the court tomorrow, Saturday, November 11 for a neutral site contest against Washington University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
