The Lead: An 18-2 run to start the second half put the game out of reach for the MIT men's basketball team who fell 85-63 to Endicott College on Wednesday night. Sophomore
Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) led the way for the Engineers off the bench with a 14-point, seven rebound effort in the loss.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- The two teams traded buckets for the first eight-and-a-half minutes of action, but following a 12-12 tie with 11:22 left, Endicott went on a 14-4 run to build up a 10-point lead with 6:46 remaining in the first half. The run featured a trio of treys for the Gulls.
Â
- After MIT was able to get within 28-20 at the 5:15 mark, Endicott added another 7-0 run thanks to back-to-back trips to the charity stripe and a three-pointer from
Jeff Hill. The two teams traded baskets down the stretch and a trey from Minicozzi got the Engineers back to a single digit deficit before the half. However, a free throw from Hill increased the margin to 41-33 at the intermission.
Â
- The Gulls kicked off the second stanza with an 18-2 run, establishing a 57-35 advantage with 14:29 left in the game. The run was halted with a pair of first year
Merlin Gogolin (New York, N.Y.) free throws, while a Minicozzi and-one brought made it a 19-point game.
Â
- The Engineers had a 10-2 run of their own over a three-minute span thanks to a pair of three-pointers from junior
Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.) and first year
Samuel Chen (Bellevue, Wash.) which to cut the Gulls' lead to 66-52 with 7:17 to go in the game. That was as close as it would get as Endicott hung on for the win.
Â
