- The Lead: The MIT men's swimming and diving team took a 229-62 victory over Springfield College on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Engineers opened the meet strong as they swept the top three spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of sophomore
Theo Chen (Plano, Texas), sophomore
Thomas Wu (Cedar Park, Texas), first-year
Bryce Roberts (Mill Valley, Calif.), and senior
Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.) took first with a finals time of 1:34.26.
- First-year
Aitor Arrese-Igor (Delray Beach, Fla.) took the win in the 100-back with a time of 53.53, just beating out teammate sophomore
Evan Liu (Woodbury, N.Y.) who touched the wall with a time of 53.55.
- Senior
Jaden Luo (Austin, Texas) and Roberts took the top spots in the 200-yard butterfly with Luo leading the way with an impressive time of 1:54.60 followed by Roberts with a time of 1:59.31.
- Obochi swam the 50-free in 21.12 for a first-place finish while sophomore
Alvin Tsai (Mineola, N.Y.) took second with a time of 21.85. Tsai then won the 100-free with a time of 47.39, just barely defeating Obochi who finished in 47.40.
- In the 200-free, MIT took spots 1-3 led by first-year
Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) (1:44.93). Sophomore
Eugene Jiang (Baton Rouge, La.) finished in second with a time of 1:45.33 followed by sophomore
Cole Firlie (Sarasota, Fla.) in third (1:48.02).
- In the 200-back, sophomore
Zack West (Kailua, Hawaii) came in first with a time of 1:55.43 followed by Chen in second with a time of 2:02.30.
- The Engineers swept the top spots in the 100-yard butterfly led by senior
Arnold Su (Irvine, Calif.) in first with a time of 51.18. Senior
Brian Li (Austin, Texas) clocked in with a second-place finish (51.83) followed by Roberts in third (52.09).
- Junior
David Benko (Budapest, Hungary) swept the boards with a win in the three-meter (252.53) and one-meter (262.80).
- The 400-IM was all MIT as the Engineers were led by first-year
Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) who took first with a time of 4:05.03. Junior
Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.) finished in second (4:05.50) followed by Tsai in third (4:20.61).
- MIT closed out the day with a win in the 400-free relay as Luo, Liu, Roberts, and Su took first with a time of 3:07.67.
UP NEXT:
- The Engineers have a week break before returning to the pool on Saturday, November 18 for a dual meet in Worcester, Mass. against WPI and Bowdoin.
