Isaac Dobie (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) scored a career-high 25 points, but the MIT men's basketball team dropped a 76-56 NEWMAC contest on the road against Wheaton on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first points were not scored until 17:19 when the host hit two free throws and took a 5-0 lead. First-year
Merlin Gogolin (New York, N.Y.) got the Engineers on the board at 16:28. The defensive battle continued throughout the first half until the Lyons went on a 14-5 run to end the first half with a 39-21 advantage. Dobie accounted for 15 of MIT's 21 first-half points.
- A layup from Dobie and a three from sophomore
Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) at 12:10 cut the Wheaton lead to 56-38 but the Lyons scored the next five points to take a 61-38 lead.
- MIT ended the game on a 14-5 run highlighted by eight points from first-year
Michael Zhang (Jacksonville, Fla.) and six from senior
Jake Jones (Weston, Conn.), but Wheaton took the 76-56 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Dobie led all scorers with 25 points. It's his fifth game with at least 10 points and third in a row.
- Gogolin finished the game with eight points, six rebounds, and three assists.
- Zhang ended the game with 10 points.
- MIT had four blocks and 13 steals in the game.
