The Lead: The No. 16 MIT squash team had their rally fall short as the Engineers fell to No. 21 St. Lawrence, 5-4 on Friday night in MIT's final regular season match.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After dropping the opening three matches, first-year
Bobby Albani (Newton Square, Pa.) toughed out a five-set win in the fifth ladder to give MIT its first match victory.
- Senior
Matt McManus (Philadelphia, Pa.) made it a 3-2 match with his 3-1 win in the seventh position. McManus dropped the first set but rallied to win the next three and sealed the win with an 11-1 win in the fourth set.
- A 3-0 sweep by junior
Collin Wen (Short Hills, N.J.) in the fourth position cut the St. Lawrence advantage to 4-3, and junior
Nikhil Kakarla (Philadelphia, Pa.) rallied to win his match in the sixth position 3-2, however, the Engineers comeback attempt fell just shy as the Saints got the decisive fifth victory.
UP NEXT:
- MIT will next compete at the CSA Team Championships that will be held from February 24-26 on the campuses of Trinity and Wesleyan in Connecticut.
