The Lead: MIT generated 10 unanswered points during the final 3:26 of the second quarter to help it pull away and record an 89-56 victory over Clark University in NEWMAC women's basketball action on Saturday. Sophomore
Kamsi Nwogu (Algonquin, Ill.) powered the Engineers with 21 points on 9-of-9 shooting from the floor and a 3-of-4 outing at the free throw line while also grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
Alaina Schatzabel paced the Cougars with 10 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After a layup by Schatzabel brought Clark within 5-4, sophomore
Sarah Berman (York, Pa.) knocked down a three-pointer which sparked a 16-3 run by MIT. The Cougars responded with 10 straight points as a trey by
Jalin Waters narrowed the gap to 21-17 with 1:18 left in the quarter. The Engineers created some breathing room courtesy of a Nwogu layup and free throw in addition to sophomore
Elise Harvey's (Wayland, Mass.) layup at the buzzer.

- Clark remained within striking distance early in the second stanza as four free throws by
Mariah Harris trimmed the deficit to eight points (31-23) at the 7:37 mark. Sophomore
Angie Choi (Cypress, Calif.) quickly drained a three pointer, helping MIT pull away before generating a 10-0 run en route to a 50-30 halftime advantage.

- The Engineers maintained their comfortable cushion throughout the third quarter as their lead grew to 70-45 following Choi's layup and two free throws during the final 47 seconds.

- MIT opened the fourth quarter with a 12-3 run, however, the Cougars held an 8-7 scoring edge during the final seven minutes of the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Choi generated 19 points including a career-high 11 assists and eight rebounds. Her assist tally was two shy of tying the record of 13 set by
Kimberly Soo Hoo '08 in 2008. Graduate student
Paula Pieper (Greenville, S.C.) posted 16 points and two steals as first year
Briana Lebrun (Hartford, Conn.) registered 10 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench. First year
Alice Hall (Ambler, Pa.) bolstered the defense with three blocks.

- Harris,
Julianne Liebow, and Waters each posted nine points as Harris added two assists.
Sarah Zambrano collected a team-high eight rebounds while
Cam Richey dished out eight assists.

- Both teams produced 23 points from their respective benches while the Engineers led the way in rebounds (54-27), points in the paint (36-16), points off turnovers (23-18), and second-chance points (9-5).

- MIT shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the floor, 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range, and 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from the free throw line.

- Clark shot 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the floor, 35 percent (7-of-20) from behind the arc, and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) at the charity stripe.
