Men's Track and Field

No. 1 Engineers Earn Three Event Wins at Springfield Triangle Classic

THE BASICS:
 
- Location: Springfield College Field House (Springfield, Mass.)
 
- The Lead: Led by three event victories and 10 top-10 finishes overall, the No. 1 ranked MIT men's track and field team competed at the Springfield College Triangle Classic on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Sophomore Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) swept the shot put and weight throw with throws of 52 feet, 10.75 inches and 57 feet, 3.5 inches, respectively. Senior Henry Sobieszczyk (Newton, Mass.) was fourth in the shot put at 46 feet, 3.25 inches, along with a fifth-place showing in the weight throw at 45 feet, five inches.
 
- Sophomore Reece Shuttleworth (Arlington, Va.) won the 800 meters in a time of 1:58.36, while junior Will Liu (San Marino, Calif.) crossed in second in the 200 in 23.32 seconds. Senior McKinley Polen (Los Altos, Calif.) finished eighth in the finals of the 60 meters in a time of 7.26 seconds.
 
- First-year Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) finished third in long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 11.75 inches. In the pole vault, first-year Sawyer Garrett (Sherborn, Mass.) and junior Trey Gurga (San Diego, Calif.) tied for sixth with an identical clearance of 13 feet, 7.25 inches. The mark was a personal-best for Gurga.
