HISTORY AGAIN! Wilson Sets D3 800 Record, Kearney and Mah Qualify for Nationals in 3K

THE BASICS:

- Location: Boston University Track and Tennis Center (Boston, Mass.)

- The Lead: On Sunday at the Last Chance Meet at Boston University, graduate student Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) continued to rewrite the Division III record books as he broke the Division III national record in the 800 meters by nearly a second. In addition, seniors Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) and Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) ran the No. 5 and No. 9 times in D3 history in the 3,000 meters to qualify for the NCAA National Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the 800, Wilson closed strong in the final 200 to win the race and cross in a time of 1:46.61, which broke the previous Division III record by a .82-second margin that was set in 2012. In addition, the time broke the seven-year old MIT school record of 1:49.70 that was set in 2016.

- In the 3,000, both Kearney and Mah secured their places at the upcoming NCAA Championship as the duo ran PR's of 8:04.63 and 8:09.23, respectively. This year's MIT team now has the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 9 all-time performances in the 3K as they join senior Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) on the list after he ran an MIT-record 8:00.41 earlier in the year.
