Men's Volleyball Eases Past Lesley, 3-0

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 3, Lesley - 0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-5)
 
- Records: MIT (9-5), Lesley (0-3)
 
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Rockwell Cage)
 
- The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team earned a decisive 3-0 victory over Lesley on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Rockwell Cage.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Set 1: A kill from first-year Ben Volokh (Studio City, Calif.) started a 7-0 Engineer run, highlighted by three service aces from first-year Michael Rini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) to give MIT an 8-1 lead. First-year Matthew Pierre-Louis (Port Washington, N.Y.)  recorded four straight aces to put MIT up 20-6 as the home team took set one 25-9 on a kill from Volokh.
 
- Set 2: The Engineers once again raced out to a large lead as an ace from sophomore Ben Sheres (San Diego, Calif.) put the hosts up 12-3. Sophomore Nicolas Stone Perez (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Sheres recorded the sets final seven points with Stone Perez recording four aces and Sheres grabbing three kills to give MIT set two by a 25-6 score.
 
- Set 3: MIT recorded 20-straight points with Pierre-Louis earning nine aces during the run. Sheres sealed the victory with a kill.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Volokh led the Engineers with eight kills followed by Rini and senior Justin Li (Fremont, Calif.) with five.
 
- Pierre-Louis recorded a match-high 13 aces.
 
- Stone Perez had 25 assists in the match.
 
UP NEXT:
 
- MIT stays home as the Engineers will host a tri-match on Saturday, March 4 beginning with a UVC contest against New Paltz at 1 p.m. MIT will later take on Rivier at 6 p.m.
