The Lead: In their first action of the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference (MASC) Championships, the MIT squash team went 1-1 in the Holly Cup on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers fell to No. 6 Virginia in the opening match of the day but rebounded for a 7-2 victory over 24th-ranked Navy later in the afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. UVA:
- UVA took control early, winning the first six matches by 3-0 scores.
- Junior
Eli Kramer (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a tough match in the top spot as he rebounded from an 11-3 loss in the first set to narrowly drop set two by a 14-12 margin.
Aly Hussein then won the fourth set 11-5.
- In the fourth position, first-year
Bobby Albani (Newtown Square, Pa.) held tough in a 3-0 defeat to
John Paul Tew (11-5, 11-6, 11-8).
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. NAVY:
- The Engineers swept positions 6-8 with 3-0 wins from junior
Nikhil Kakarla (Philadelphia, Pa.), first-year
Mitav Nayak (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), and junior
Yos Wagenmans (Seattle, Wash.). Junior
 Collin Wen (Short Hills, N.J.) also earned a 3-0 victory in the fourth ladder as four of the Engineers' wins came by sweeps.
- Albani took a 3-1 victory in the fifth slot while classmate
Hyun Su Price held off
Henry Sparkman in the third ladder for a 3-1 win. Â
