Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) and
Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.), the MIT men's track and field team opened the 2023 outdoor season at the two-day Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the 5,000 meters on Thursday evening, senior
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) ran a personal-best time of 14:21.93 and is currently ranked seventh nationally. He was followed by senior
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.), who crossed in 14:37.94 and is No. 16 in the country.

- In a late-night run under the lights for the 10,000 meters, Kearney and Mah took to the track for their first races of the spring season. Kearney finished 28th overall and is ranked No. 1 in the country as he shattered the MIT school record with a time of 29:13.69. Mah was next up at 29:42.53 as that time is ranked No. 2 in the country. Kearney is now ranked seventh all-time in D3 history as he broke the 46-year old MIT school record.
