Lawrence Tang (Hopkinton, Mass.).
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- MIT picked up an unearned run in the top of the first before the Fords countered with single runs in the bottom of the first and second to go in front at 2-1. The Engineers regained the lead in the top of the third as a single from junior
Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) scored
Kyle Sonandres to go along with a sac fly to center by senior
Graham Cartwright (La Jolla, Calif.) that plated Sonandres for the 3-2 edge.
Â
- The Engineers scored eight unanswered runs from the top of the fourth to the top of the seventh to extend to an 11-3 margin with MIT picking up six hits over that stretch. The Fords put up two runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth to pull within one at 11-10. First-year
Owen Malone (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored on a wild pitch in the ninth for an insurance run as sophomore
Eithan Siegel (Austin, Texas) worked out of the jam for the MIT save and two-run victory.
