Softball Extends Win Streak to Nine With Sweep of Stockton

THE BASICS:
 
- Scores:

- Location: Galloway, N.J. (Stockton Softball Field)
 
- The Lead: The MIT softball team extended its winning streak to nine as the Engineers wrapped up their Spring Break trip with a sweep of Stockton on Wednesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE:
 
- RBI from sophomores Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) and Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) gave MIT a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Sophomore Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) and senior Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) extended the lead to 4-0 with RBI singles in the second.
 
- Stockton put two runners on in the third, but first year Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) got MIT out of the inning unscathed.
 
- Senior Haley Samuelsen (Houston, Texas) scored the fifth MIT run of the game in the seventh. The Ospreys got a runner on third with no out in the bottom of the inning, but the Engineers threw her out at home and held on for a 5-0 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
 
- Adkison and Sell led MIT with two hits each.
 
- Langmeyer improved to 6-0 with a complete game shutout. She gave up six hits and two walks and struck out seven.
 
- Jenna Crampton took the loss to fall to 3-1. She tossed five innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits with no walks and three Ks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO:
 
- Adkison led off with a double and scored on a double from Sell. RBI singles from Cable, junior Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), and junior Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) put MIT up 4-0. Bivin made it a 5-0 game in the second with an RBI single.
 
- MIT extended its lead to 7-0 in the third, but Stockton got three back in the fifth on a three-run homer from Charli Czaczkowski.
 
- Bivin tripled home two runs in the sixth and an RBI groundout from Pendowski gave MIT a 10-3 lead which would be the game's final score.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
 
- MIT outhit Stockton 15-3 with five Engineers recording at least two hits. Relihan led the way with three hits while Adkison, Sell, Cable, and Bivin all had two hits in the contest.
 
- Bivin knocked in three runs during the game and now has 25 this season as she has recorded an RBI in all but three games this season. She has knocked in at least one run in five-straight games.  
 
- Sophomore Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) earned the complete game win to move to 3-0. She gave up three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
 
- Nerina Tramp took the loss to fall to 4-5 on the year as she allowed three runs on three hits in one inning of work.
 
UP NEXT:
 
- MIT will open up NEWMAC play with a doubleheader against Wellesley College on Saturday, April 1. Game one is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start with game two scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
