- The Lead: The MIT softball team opened up NEWMAC play with two shutout victories over Wellesley on the road on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE:
Â
- The Engineers loaded the bases in the top of the first and plated two runs on a walk of sophomore
Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) and a single from junior
Rylie Spiegel (Rumson, N.J.).
Â
- Two more runs in the second gave MIT a 4-0 advantage. First year
Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) scored on sophomore
Kennedy Adkison's (San Jose, Calif.) fielder's choice, and Adkison later scored on a double from sophomore
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.).

- Four runs were more than enough for first year
Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) who retired Wellesley in order in innings three-five. She later struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the shutout victory for the Engineers.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Langmeyer went the distance scattering just three hits with one walk and six Ks to move to 7-0 on the year.

- Cable, Spiegel, and Ladd each tallied three hits for MIT.

Lauren Young took the loss for the Blue as she went seven innings allowing four runs on ten hits. She walked four and struck out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO:

- Sophomore
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) doubled home senior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) for the first MIT run in the fourth. Adkison made it a 2-0 game in the fifth with a single to center to plate senior
Haley Samuelsen (Houston, Texas).

- Bivin took home on a throwing error by the Wellesley catcher for the third run of the day for the visitors in the sixth.
- Wellesley brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, but Langmeyer came in and retired the next three batters to secure the 3-0 win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- With the win, MIT extends its winning streak to 11 games.

Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) improved to 4-0 as she tossed five innings of five-hit ball with no walks and one strikeout.

- Langmeyer recorded her second save of the year.

- Samuelsen went 2-3 on the day to lead the Engineers who as a team totaled eight hits.

Marisa Sgambati took the loss for Wellesley to fall to 0-3 on the year. She threw seven innings of eight-hit ball, and allowed three runs (one earned) with one walk and three strikeouts.
