Caroline Young Named Co-Head Coach of MIT Co-Ed and Women's Sailing

Cambridge, Mass. (May 25) -- Caroline Young has been named as the Co-Head Coach of the MIT Co-Ed and Women's Sailing programs, as announced by Dr. G. Anthony Grant, MIT director of athletics/DAPER department head. In her role, Young will also serve as an instructor with the Physical Education and Wellness Program.

"While it is bittersweet to leave the head coach role at Eckerd College, I am thrilled to join the MIT team as Co-Head Coach of the varsity sailing program," said Young. "As an All-American and graduate of the Stanford University School of Engineering, I am inspired by the student-athletes here at MIT and hope to share my experience and strength to support their growth as students, athletes, and leaders. I look forward to an exciting first season as an official Engineer.

Young has served as the head varsity sailing coach at Eckerd College in Florida since 2021, where she recruited top-level student-athletes to the program while planning all travel, equipment operations and the competition schedule. Prior to her time at Eckerd, she worked as the director and head coach for the Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation in Tampa, Fla. for two years after she was the varsity sailing coach for Stanford in 2019. During that season, the Cardinal placed third at the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship.

"We are very excited to welcome Caroline to the MIT family as the co-head coach of our sailing program," said Dr. Grant. "Her passion for the sport, in conjunction with her experience as a successful collegiate head coach and All-American student-athlete, makes her an outstanding fit for this role at MIT. I look forward to the positive influence that she will have on our student-athletes and the impact that she will have on the sailing program for years to come."

As a student-athlete, Young graduated with a B.S. from Stanford University in Engineering with a concentration in Product Design in 2007. She was a two-time Women's Team MVP while being named to the All-America Team and B Division Champion at the 2005 ICSA Women's National Championship.
