- The Lead: Led by six event victories, the No. 1 ranked MIT men's track and field team captured the 2023 New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday with a total of 143 points. Overall, the Engineers broke or tied four MIT rookie records over the two-day meet as the team earned the program's 16th all-time New England D3 outdoor title.

Jacob Hansen (Bountiful, Utah) finished in third with a time of 31:41.59 to pick up six points for the Engineers. Sophomore
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) qualified fourth in the 110-meter hurdle prelims with a time of 14.86 seconds, while first-year
Zac Nwogwugwu (London, United Kingdom) finished seventh in the prelims at 10.78 seconds.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY:

- In the discus, sophomore
Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) earned the win by nearly 12 feet with a throw of 164 feet, seven inches. He also scored in the shot put, placing sixth at 50 feet, 8.25 inches. First-year
Jackson Bliey (Wilmington, Del.) broke his own MIT rookie record in the high jump, clearing six feet, 9.5 inches to win the event. Junior
Spencer Yandrofski (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished fifth with a height of six feet, five inches.

Sawyer Garrett (Sherborn, Mass.) was fourth in the pole vault at 14 feet, 6.75 inches, while first-year
Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, 1.5 inches.

- In the relays, the Engineers took first in the 4x400 with a time of 3:17.83. They also scored in the 4x100 and 4x800, placing third in 42.43 seconds and sixth in 8:01.30, respectively.

- Sophomore
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase by almost nine seconds as he crossed in a time of 9:01.86. First-year
Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) was close behind him in fourth place, running a time of 9:34.59.

- Truitt won the 110-meter hurdles by a margin of three one-thousandths of a second as he posted a personal-best time of 14.17 seconds. Graduate student
Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) led four Engineers in the top eight of the 1,500 meters as he won the event in a time of 3:43.30. Junior
Henry Hardart (Annapolis, Md.) was second in 3:46.38, followed by sophomore
Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) in sixth at 3:52.81 and sophomore
Reece Shuttleworth (Arlington, Va.) in eighth at 3:53.42. These were all PR's for Hardart, Opsahl and Shuttleworth.

Jack DeBaugh (Severna Park, Md.) finished second in the 400 at 47.67 seconds, breaking his own MIT rookie record previously set at the UConn Northeast Challenge.

- Nwogwugwu tied the MIT rookie record in the 100 meters as he ran a time of 10.75 seconds to tie teammate
Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.) from last week. Clement set his own MIT rookie mark in the 200 meters, breaking a 16-year old record as he ran a time of 21.73 seconds.

Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) earned a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:59.69, followed by senior
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) in seventh in 15:09.41. First-year
Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) finished in eighth place in the 400-meter hurdles, scoring with a time of 55.29 seconds.
