Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Barnouw's Late Penalty Kick Goal Gives Women's Soccer a 1-1 Draw Against Brandeis

Barnouw scored with two seconds remaining

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT - 1, Brandeis - 1

- Records: No. 18 MIT (0-0-1), Brandeis (0-0-1)

- Location: Waltham, Mass. (Gordon Field)

- The Lead: A late penalty kick goal from Brandeis gave the Judges a 1-0 lead, however, with two seconds remaining, junior Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) converted on her penalty kick to give the No. 18 MIT women's soccer team a 1-1 draw on Friday night in the opening game of the 2023 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) looked to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute but her shot sailed wide. Rowlett had another scoring chance in the 27th minute but Hannah Bassan made the save to keep the match scoreless.

- Rowlett had another shot turned away by Bassan in the second half, and the junior keeper kept the game scoreless with back-to-back saves against Barnouw. She added another save against sophomore Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) at 74:03 to keep MIT off the board.

- Brandeis broke the scoreless tie on a penalty kick goal at 75:24 from Elspeth Harker that just got by a diving Morgan Everett (Danville, Pa.).

- With just two seconds remaining in the game, a Brandeis foul gave MIT a chance to get even on the PK that Barnouw converted.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- MIT outshot the Judges 21-7 and did not allow a shot on goal.

- Bassan made six saves in the match for Brandeis.
