- Score: Curry College 20, MIT 16
Â
- Records: MIT (1-1); Curry College (1-2)
Â
- Location: Milton, Mass. (Walter M. Katz Field)
Â
- The Lead: In a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, the MIT football team dropped a back-and-forth 20-16 final to Curry College at Walter M. Katz Field.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- On the first drive of the game, MIT punter
Nico Bulhof (Bryan, Texas) broke a 21-year old school record as his 70-yard punt rolled down to the one-yard line.
Â
- Curry got on the board first with 3:58 left in the first quarter when
Matthew Bowen pulled down a 23-yard touchdown pass from
Dallas Murphy in the right corner of the end zone. The Colonels missed the PAT off the left upright though, making it a 6-0 margin.
Â
- The Engineers answered with 4:47 remaining in the second as senior
Brady Klein (Washington, Ill.) got MIT into the red zone with a 17-yard rush up the middle. From there, graduate student
Brandon Eickert (St. Charles, Ill.) converted a 35-yard field goal attempt to send the game into halftime at 6-3 in favor of Curry.
Â
- MIT went in front for the first time in third as the Engineers forced a fumble with 12:20 left in the quarter that gave the Engineers the ball at their own 33-yard line. Two long runs by Klein moved MIT down to the 25 and the drive was capped off by a 10-yard TD pass from sophomore
Chase Harmon (West Linn, Ore.) to senior
Ethan Ardolino (Fair Haven, N.J.) to pull within 9-6. The snap on the PAT was fumbled, resulting in the three-point scoring margin.
Â
- The teams traded the lead back-and-forth the times over the remainder of the game, including a fourth-down, 40-yard TD pass from Murphy to Bowen that made it 13-9 at the 6:15 mark of the third. MIT countered when first-year
Carson Phelps (Wichita, Kan.) scored on a rush off the left side from nine yards out to give MIT a 16-13 lead after a 36-yard reception by junior
Collin DesRoberts (Temecula, Calif.) had the Engineers with the ball at the 25-yard line.
Â
- The Colonels went back in front early in the fourth as Brown pulled down a pass to get Curry down to the MIT 15, followed by a
Montie Quinn rushing TD off the right side from five yards out for the 20-16 lead.
Â
- After a missed 30-yard field goal by the Colonels with 3:14 left in the fourth, Curry picked off Harmon in the final moments to seal the victory.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Â
- Harmon completed 12 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown, while Klein posted 74 rushing yards and Phelps finished with 58 yards and one touchdown. Junior
Andrew Hutchison (San Diego, Calif.) was the top receiver for MIT as he pulled down three receptions for a team-high 98 yards.
Â
- Quinn was the game's leading rusher for Curry with 203 yards on 36 carries, along with five catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns from Bowen.
Â
- Defensively, junior
Donny Stralkus (North Brunswick, N.J.) led all players with 18 total tackles and graduate student
Theo Dawson (Jackson, Wyoming) also finished in double figures with 10 stops. For Curry,
