The Lead: Nine different players recorded at least one point in No. 12 MIT's 11-0 non-conference field hockey victory over Gordon College on Saturday. Graduate student
Paige Forester (Glencoe, Ill.) powered the Engineers with one goal and three assists while junior
Eva Oppenheim (Tiburon, Calif.) generated the first hat trick of her career.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- MIT produced four goals in the first quarter. On back-to-back penalty corners in a span of three minutes, first year
Sammi Blocher (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) earned assists on goals by first year
Ingrid Tomovski (Bosch en Duin, Netherlands) and junior
Ashley Lederman (Villanova, Pa.). The Engineers increased their advantage courtesy of goals by Oppenheim, both of which were set up by Forester.
Â
- MIT's lead grew to 7-0 at the end of the second quarter. Graduate student
Liberty Ladd (Cornelia, Ga.) redirected a feed from Forester in the 22
nd minute and then five minutes later first year
Audrey Oh (Longmeadow, Mass.) connected on a pass from sophomore
Marisa Montione (Charlotte, N.C.) during a penalty corner. Oppenheim completed the hat trick when she connected on a pass from Oh with 52 seconds remaining.
Â
- Forester recorded an unassisted goal just over five minutes into the third quarter. Ladd then gave the Engineers a 9-0 lead courtesy of a feed from junior
Anna Simmons (Wilmington, N.C.).
Â
- MIT tacked on two more goals in the final frame. First year
Jane Tortorella (Old Greenwich, Conn.) found the back of the cage in the 52
nd minute while Oh scored on a penalty corner that was set up by Simmons and Montione with 2:20 left to play.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Â
- Nine of MIT's 11 goals were assisted.
