The Lead: The nationally ranked No. 10 MIT women's volleyball team swept Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) (25-10, 25-7, 25-4) and the host Fighting Scots (25-3, 25-13, 25-16) to capture the Gordon College Tournament title on Saturday. This was the 12
th time in 17 appearances at the tournament the Engineers have come away with a first-place finish and the fourth consecutive time it did not drop a set.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH ONE vs. Mount Saint Mary:

Set 1: Knotted at four, a hitting error kicked off a four-point burst by MIT. The Engineers gradually pulled away as back-to-back kills from sophomore
Ali Gibbs (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) claimed a 25-10 win.

Set 2: MIT jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back as it cruised to a 25-7 victory. A pair of kills by senior
Ashley Margetts (Brownsburg, Ind.) resulted in set point while an ace from first year
Kayleigh May (Camarillo, Calif.) clinched the victory.

Set 3: The Engineers once again recorded six of the first seven points of the set before going on to capture a 25-4 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Margetts tallied four kills, four aces, and four digs while senior
Consecrata Rozario (Cary, N.C.) produced four kills on five errorless attempts. May dished out 14 assists as senior
Emily Cheng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) distributed seven assists.
- Sophomore
Daphne Gavros (Bel Tiburon, Calif.) and junior
Ottavia Personeni (Bethesda, Md.) both notched four digs while Gavros added four aces. First years
Peyton Brown (Parker, Colo.) and
Elise Echarte (Miami, Fla.) chipped in four and three aces, respectively.
- This was the first meeting between both programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH TWO vs. Gordon:

Set 1: MIT opened the set with 11 unanswered points before going on to record a 25-3 win.

Set 2: The Engineers rattled off seven straight points to start the set and maintained a comfortable cushion en route to a 25-13 victory.

Set 3: Holding a 7-6 lead, back-to-back kills by junior
Lauren Keller (Albuquerque, N.M.) along with a Gordon setting error created some breathing room. MIT's margin slowly grew as a kill from Margetts gave the visitors match point at 24-14. A hitting error and a kill kept the Fighting Scots alive, however, another kill by Margetts ended the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Keller recorded seven kills on 11 errorless attempts for a .636 hitting performance. Margetts and sophomore
Claire Underwood (Yorba Linda, Calif.) both had six kills while Margetts contributed six digs.
- May generated 21 assists and six digs in two sets as Cheng produced six assists and two aces in the opening frame.
- Personeni led all players with 13 digs while Gibbs and Echarte both contributed two aces.
