- The Lead: The MIT men's soccer team won its third straight game with a 2-0 NEWMAC road win over Salve Regina on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior
Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.) got the Engineers on the board as he took a pass from first year
Dilin Meloni (Needham, Mass.) and put the ball into the back of the net at 30:43.
- Salve looked to tie the match, but senior
Lukas Hanson-Puffer (London, England) turned away the
Chase Zorner shot, and the MIT defense blocked an
Ethan David shot attempt.
- Hanson-Puffer turned away another Zorner shot at 74:24 to keep MIT in the lead.
- After a foul on Salve Regina, graduate student
Hendrik Mayer (Montville, N.J.) converted the penalty kick goal at 79:06 to make it a 2-0 Engineers lead, and MIT held on for the two-goal win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Hanson-Puffer moved to 2-1-1 with nine saves in the match.
- Robinson now has a team-high four goals and 11 points. Mayer recorded his first goal of the year.
- MIT held a 24-13 advantage in shots and an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal.
- Salve held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
