- The Lead: A late goal off a throw-in by visiting Suffolk gave the Rams a 3-2 win over the MIT men's soccer team on Wednesday night on Roberts Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Suffolk almost took an early lead, but junior
Nathan Guntvedt (Santa Clara, Calif.) was able to turn the shot away and keep the match scoreless.
- The Rams converted on a 3-on-1 opportunity when
Francisco Valck sent a pass into
Diego Pierantozzi who placed a shot into the upper corner of the net at 36:09.
- Three minutes later, the Engineers tied the match when graduate student
Hendrik Mayer (Montville, N.J.) buried the penalty shot goal at 39:20.
- In the second half,
Tommy Handelsman sent a throw-in to the front of the net where
Matthew Belluardo headed the ball into the goal at 53:53.
- Once again, the Engineers tied the match at 58:55 when Guntvedt sent a corner kick into
Kaleb Asfaw who put the ball into the goal.
- With just over 30 seconds left in a tied match, a throw-in went to
TJ Maselek who found
Francisco Valck for the decisive goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Mayer recorded his second goal of the year while the score for Asfaw was his first of the season.
- MIT outshot Suffolk 14-8, however, the Rams held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
- Senior
Lukas Hanson-Puffer (London, England) fell to 2-2-1 with five saves.
- For Suffolk,
Nathan Harlow improved to 4-1-0 with four saves.
