The Lead: In a NEWMAC women's volleyball match, No. 20 MIT emerged with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 victory over Salve Regina University on Tuesday night.

Set 1: The opening frame was closely played as there eight ties. Knotted at 22, back-to-back kills by senior
Consecrata Rozario (Cary, N.C.) created some breathing room, however, Salve Regina replied with a kill of its own. MIT then clinched the 25-23 victory on another kill by Rozario.

Set 2: Trailing 5-4, a kill by sophomore
Claire Underwood (Yorba Linda, Calif.) sparked a 7-1 run which put the Engineers ahead for good. MIT maintained a small cushion as an ace by first year
Elise Echarte (Miami Beach, Fla.) secured a 25-18 win.

Set 3: After conceding the opening point, the Engineers rattled off seven in a row and eventually established a 20-9 advantage on a kill by junior
Lauren Keller (Albuquerque, N.M.). After a brief exchange of points, a 5-1 spurt by the Seahawks narrowed the gap to 23-16. MIT responded with a kill by Underwood, but a kill by Salve Regina extended the match. The Engineers thwarted the late rally courtesy of a kill by first year

- Underwood led all players with 12 kills on 22 errorless attempts as Keller produced eight kills and four blocks. Senior
Emily Cheng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) tallied 27 assists and 14 digs while junior
Ottavia Personeni (Bethesda, Md.) amassed a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore
Daphne Gavros (Bel Tiburon, Calif.) and senior
Ashley Margetts (Brownsburg, Ind.) bolstered the defense with 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
