Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- In a closely played opening frame, a layup by junior
Elise Harvey (Wayland, Mass.) brought MIT within 11-9 with two seconds remaining.
Â
- The Engineers carried the momentum into the second stanza as they built a 22-16 lead on a jumper by Nwogu at the 5:28 mark. During Middlebury's next possession, Mustafaj knocked down a jumper, sparking a 13-2 run which put the Panthers ahead for good and resulted in a 29-24 edge at halftime. Mustafa accounted for all the visitors' points during the rally.
Â
- Middlebury gradually pulled away in the third quarter as its 20-8 scoring margin increased its advantage to 49-32 at the end of the period.
Â
- Despite the deficit MIT continued to attack as it narrowed the gap to 56-47 courtesy of Nwogu's jumper with 1:57 left to play. Mustafaj replied with five points in the next 54 seconds, putting the game out of reach for the Engineers.
