No. 6 Women’s Soccer Tops No. 15 Williams, 1-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- First year Amara Ukomadu (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal to lead the No. 6 ranked MIT women's soccer team to a non-conference victory over No. 15 Williams College on Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS:

  • Score: No. 6 MIT 1, No. 15 Williams 0
  • Records: MIT (11-1-1 Overall), Williams (6-4-2 Overall)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Williams earned three straight corner kicks in the opening four minutes of the game, but each was cleared away by the Engineers. The first shot on target came from the Ephs at 6:38, but first year Lily Mark (Wenham, Mass.) was denied by MIT first year goalkeeper Maddy Noll (Northbrook, Ill.).
  • MIT's first shot on target came at the 17:25 point of the first half from senior Emiko Pope (St. Louis, Mo) but junior goalkeeper Margaret Huelin (Farmington, Conn.) made the stop for Williams to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Engineers finished the opening half with a 7-6 advantage in shots. The final MIT shot of the first half broke the scoreless tie.
  • Sophomore Arianna Doss' (Houstin, Texas) shot at 42:38 was denied by Huelin but the rebound fell to Ukomadu who deposited the ball into the net to give MIT a 1-0 lead at 42:40.
  • The second half was controlled by Williams, but it belonged to Noll. MIT's goalkeeper made eight stops after halftime, finishing the contest with 11 saves to preserve MIT's third straight shutout and eighth of the season.
  • Williams had a 14-1 advantage in second half shots but could not find a way past the MIT defense. With 1:38 left in regulation, Noll made an outstretched effort to deny Mark as MIT held on to earn the win.
