Barnouw's Hat Trick Leads No. 5 Women's Soccer to 6-1 Win Over Salve Regina

NEWPORT, RI – Senior Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded her first career hat trick and had an assist to lead the No. 5 MIT women's soccer team to a 6-1 road NEWMAC victory over Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Engineers have won their seventh straight match and move to a perfect 7-0 in conference play.
 
THE BASICS

  • Records: MIT (13-1-1 Overall, 7-0 NEWMAC), Salve Regina (2-10-3 Overall, 1-3-3 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Junior Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) got the Engineers on the board early with a goal at 2:06.
  • Salve Regina tied the match 10 minutes later on a goal by junior Hannah Daniewicz (Preston, Conn.).
  • Barnouw scored three straight goals in just under three minutes to give MIT a 4-1 lead. Her first goal came at 13:16 off a pass from Madelyn Popilek (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), and at 15:07 she took a long pass from senior Remington Sandell (South Salem, N.Y.) and found the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season. Just over 50 seconds later she took a pass from Luk and buried the shot into the back of the net.
  • Barnouw then set up senior Lauren Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) for the fifth MIT goal at 22:32 to give the Engineers a 5-1 lead.
  • Sophomore Qiana Felician (Roosevelt, N.Y.) wrapped up the scoring with her first goal of the season off passes from sophomore JoJo Miller (Marietta, Ga.) and first year Adeline Perkins (Mendham, N.J.) at 37:56.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Maddy Noll (Northbrook, Ill.) and Cassidy Jennings (Sioux Falls, S.D.) split time in goal for MIT. Noll got the start and made two saves while Jennings made two stops in the second half. Noll moves to 5-0 on the year.
  • Barnouw has team-leading eight goals and 18 points. Her seven points are a career-high.
  • Luk's goal was her third of the year has a team-high seven assists.
  • Reagan Moffatt (Denville, N.J.) and Emelia DaPonte (Marshfield, Mass.) each made four stops in the game for Salve.
