No. 4 Women's Soccer Defeats Babson 4-0; Rowlett Ties Career Goal Record

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) scored twice to help lead the No. 4 MIT women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Babson in NEWMAC action on Wednesday afternoon on Roberts Field.
 
With her two goals, Rowlett is tied with Amy Ludlum for the most goals in program history (52). Her four points brings her career total to 126, just one point shy of Ludlum for third all-time.
 
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • MIT netted two goals in the first five minutes of the match. Senior Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) sent a corner kick into the front of the goal where senior Lauren Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) got her head on the ball and gave the Engineers a 1-0 lead 1:51 into the game.
  • Senior Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) tipped a pass to Rowlett in front of the net where Rowlett got her foot on the ball and put it into the corner at 5:35 to give MIT the 2-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Emma Wang (San Carlos, Calif.) corralled a pass from junior Alice Vranka (Bronxville, N.Y.) outside of the box and sent a strike into the left corner of the goal at 44:11 to make it 3-0.
  • Rowlett tallied her second goal of the day early in the second half as she controlled a cross from English and got the ball past Nora Ryan (Abington, Mass.) at 48:16 to make it 4-0.
  • The Beavers put two shots on goal late in the half, but both were turned away by Maddy Noll (Northbrook, Ill.) to preserve the shutout win for the Engineers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Rowlett has six goals and 15 points on the year.
  • English has four assists on the season, and Vranka tallied her second. Wang recorded her first goal of her collegiate career.
  • Noll improved to 6-0 on the season as she completed her third shutout of the season. She turned away both Beaver shots she faced.
  • MIT has allowed just three goals in eight NEWMAC contests. This marked the fifth shutout win in conference play.
  • The Engineers have outscored Babson 9-0 in their last two meetings.
  • Ryan made four saves and is 5-5-5 this season.
UP NEXT: 
  • MIT is back on the road as the team heads to Worcester for a 7:00 PM NEWMAC contest against WPI on Saturday, October 26. The Beavers will host Salve Regina on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
