No. 3 Men's Swimming and Diving Opens Season Against Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 3 MIT men's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2024-25 season with a meet against Harvard on Friday night at the Zesiger Center Pool.

THE BASICS

Scores: Harvard - 224, MIT - 68

HOW IT HAPPENED:

MIT opened the event with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley. The team of first year Nathan Kim (La Crescenta, Calif.), first year Grant Hu (Allen, Texas), first year Ben Wu (New Canaan, Conn.), and graduate student Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.) finished in 1:31.88. The time ranks as one of the best so far this season.
Obochi finished second in the 50-free (20.30) and 100-free (45.39) in tightly contested sprints.
Hu grabbed second in the 200-fly (1:52.18), fourth in the 500-free (4:38.00) and fourth in the 200IM (1:52.80) in his first collegiate meet.
Sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) paced the Engineers in the 200-free, 200-breast and 200 IM. He finished in second with a time of 2:06.11 in the 200-breast, third in the 200 IM (1:51.26), and fifth in the 200-free (1:42.44).
The Engineers closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-free. Obochi kicked off the relay followed by first year Anthony Koh (Dresher, Pa.) and junior Thomas Wu (Cedar Park, Texas). Kim brought the Engineers home for a final time of 1:22.63 which is currently the second fastest in Division III.
