Luk Leads No. 3 Women's Soccer to 4-1 Win Over Wellesley; Rowlett Breaks Goals Record

Meagan Rowlett Set a New Program Record With 53 Career Goals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Sean Luk (Bel Air, Md.) scored twice to help lead the No. 3 MIT women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Wellesley on Wednesday afternoon on Roberts Field.
 
With her late-game goal, senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) set the program record with 53 career goals and is now tied with Karenna Groff for second in career points with 128.
 
THE BASICS
  • Score: No. 3 MIT 4, Wellesley 1
  • Records: MIT (16-1-1 Overall, 10-0 NEWMAC), Wellesley (5-9-3 Overall, 1-7-2 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • After a scoreless first half in which Sascha Fleesler (New York, N.Y.) turned away four MIT scoring chances, Luk got MIT on the board at 54:08 as she collected a loose ball in front and sent a hooking shot into the corner of the goal.
  • Sophomore Arianna Doss' shot went off the hands of Fleesler and fell right to Luk for her second score of the game at 62:54.
  • First year Solveig Unteroberdoerster (Chevy Chase, Md.) collected a loose ball in front of the MIT goal and made it a 2-1 match at 70:09.
  • The Engineers quickly went back up by two off a free kick from sophomore Macy Lehrer (Danville, Calif.). Lehrer's shot found senior Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) for the header at 71:43.
  • Sophomore Ayla Sumer (Dallas, Texas) sent a cross into the front of the cage where Rowlett settled the ball and laced the shot past the diving keeper for her record-breaking score at 82:51. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Barnouw tallied her team-leading tenth score of the year and Rowlett recorded her seventh goal.
  • Luk registered her second multi-goal game of the season and is fourth on the team with five goals.
  • Sumner and Lehrer tallied their first assist of the season.
  • First year Maddy Noll (Northbrook, Ill.) improved to 8-0.
  • Fleesler turned away four shots in the game. 
UP NEXT: 
  • The Engineers wrap up the regular season on Saturday, November 2 on Senior Day against  Emerson on Roberts Field at 1:00 PM. The Blue will conclude their regular season with a 12:00 PM contest against Salve Regina.
