WORCESTER, Mass. -- The MIT men's lightweight rowing Varsity Eight opened the season with a silver medal performance in the Men's Collegiate 8 at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday morning on Lake Quinsigamond.

THE BASICS:

• Men's Collegiate 4+: 4th of 13 
• Men's Collegiate 8: 2nd and 7th of 24 

RACE BY RACE: 

• MIT finished just outside the medals with a competitive time of 00:16:49.936 in the Men's Collegiate 4+. The Engineers were 14 seconds ahead of fifth place Middlebury.  
• The Engineers Varsity 8 spoiled the party for hometown Holy Cross in the Men's Collegiate 8. The Crusaders top boat finished in 00:13:43.764, seven seconds ahead of MIT's pace in second place with a time of 00:13:50.658. However, MIT was the only non-Holy Cross boat in the top-four. 
• The Second Varsity eight added a time of 00:14:30.552, good for seventh place. MIT, Holy Cross and WPI were the only teams with multiple boats in the top ten in the 24 boat field.
