THE BASICS:
- Score: No. 16 MIT 3, Wellesley 2
- Records: No. 16 MIT (8-3 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC); Wellesley (8-4 Overall, 3-1 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wellesley opened the scoring on an unassisted goal by first-year Annika Schermerhorn (Clifton Park, N.Y.) after 5:16 expired.
- The Engineers replied with two goals during the final 1:36 of the first quarter. Sophomore Janie Thomas (Houston, Texas) dribbled the ball into the arc, and it made its way to junior Bailey McIntyre (Concord, Mass.) who redirected it at the near post. Just over a minute later during a penalty corner, senior Ashley Lederman (Villanova, Pa.) passed to McIntyre whose blast deflected off Oh's stick into the top of the cage.
- The score remained unchanged until senior Sara Maniscalco (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) produced the equalizer for the Blue in the 32nd minute.
- MIT controlled the action in the fourth quarter as it earned eight penalty corners. During its last attempt, sophomore Ingrid Tomovski (Bosch en Duin, Netherlands) passed the ball from the middle of the arc to Oh on the far side who hit it to the near post.
- Wellesley had a chance to tie the game as it was awarded a penalty corner with 27 seconds remaining. Senior Camille Newman (New York, N.Y.) put a shot on goal that was stopped by sophomore goalie Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.). The rebound was batted around until the MIT defense poked the ball out across the endline.
