No. 6 Women's Soccer Blanks Wheaton, 2-0

NORTON, Mass. – Senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) scored what proved to be the game-winner just under 10 minutes into the game as the No. 6 MIT women's soccer team won its fourth NEWMAC game of the season as the Engineers earned a 2-0 road shutout over Wheaton on Wednesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.

THE BASICS
  • Score: No. 6 MIT 2, Wheaton 0
  • Records: MIT (9-1-1 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC), Wheaton (4-4-4 Overall, 0-2-2 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Madeline Seebeck (San Antonio, Texas) settled a bouncing ball and sent a pass over to Rowlett at the far corner of the box. Rowlett then laced a shot into the far-right corner of the net at 9:05 to give the Engineers the early lead.
  • Just over 10 minutes later, senior Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) placed a cross right in front of the goal where senior Lauren Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) was able to knock the ball into the back of the net at 19:44 and give MIT the 2-0 advantage.
  • The Engineers looked to build on their lead in the second half, but Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) turned away all seven shots by MIT in the half.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Rowlett's goal gives her three on the season and 49 in her career to rank third all-time. She is three goals away from the program record.
  • Davis has scored in back-to-back games with both scores coming off corner kicks by English.
  • First year Maddy Noll (Northbrook, Ill.) and junior Ava Muffoletto (Kings Park, N.Y.) split time in goal for MIT. Muffoletto made one save to earn the win and move to 2-0.
  • Bandrup made a season-high 13 saves and is now 4-4-4 on the season.
