Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Barnouw Leads No. 3 Women's Soccer to NCAA Second Round With 3-1 Win Over SUNY Geneseo

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored two goals in the span of 1:30 in the second half to break a 1-1 tie to send the No. 3 MIT women's soccer team to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship as the Engineers defeated SUNY Geneseo, 3-1 on Roberts Field on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
  • Score: No. 3 MIT 3, SUNY Geneseo 1
  • Records: MIT (21-1-1 Overall), SUNY Geneseo (13-5-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • MIT struck first at 8:51 when Arianna Doss (Houston, Texas) got the ball to senior Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) near midfield. English then sent a long cross-field pass to classmate Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) who went top shelf to the far post to put MIT on the board.
  • The Knights answered quickly when junior Abby Foster (Stony Brook, N.Y.) lifted a shot over the bar over a leaping Maddy Noll (Northbrook, Ill.) at 10:10.
  • Barnouw broke the tie with a looping goal from outside the box that went over the outstretched hands of Emily McLouth (Clarence, N.Y.) at 48:27.
  • Just over a minute later, Barnouw added an insurance goal as she converted on the penalty kick goal that rang off the bottom post and in at 49:57.
  • The Knights put two shots off the crossbar in the half as they looked to even the score, but the Engineer defense held firm for the 3-1 win.
