No. 3 Men's Swimming and Diving Earns 200-98 Win Over Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –  The No. 3 MIT men's swimming and diving team had a highly successful day in the pool as the Engineers defeated Springfield, 200-95 on Saturday afternoon in Art Linkletter Natatorium.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Engineers opened the day with the two fastest times in the 400-yard medley relay. The relay of junior Zack West (Kailua, Hawaii), senior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.), junior Thomas Wu (Cedar Park, Texas), and graduate student Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.) won with a time of 3:28.10. First year Aaron Martin (Phoenix, Ariz.), senior Jacob McCarran (Pittsburgh, Pa.), first year Ben Wu (New Canaan, Conn.), and sophomore Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) followed with a time of 3:31.65.
  • MIT showed its depth in the 200-free as the Engineers took the top four spots led by graduate student Brian Li (Austin, Texas) with a time of 1:45.56. First year Kelson Cantrell (Walnut Creek, Ga.) followed in second with a mark of 1:46.56 and Ben Wu took third in 1:46.82. Wagner touched the wall in 1:47.12.
  • First year Truman Remenicky (Brewerton, N.Y.) took second on the 3-meter board with a score of 245.11. Sophomore Jack Tucker (Naples, Fla.) finished in third with a mark of 195.83. Reminickey achieved an NCAA Regional score of 277.43 on the 1-meter with his victory. Tucker earned third with a score of 201.68.
  • Martin won his first collegiate event as he took home first in the 100-free with a time of 47.15.
  • West and Wagner finished 1-2 in the 200-back with times of 1:56.10 and 1:56.56.
  • Sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) took first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:01.23 which currently ranks as the second fastest in Division III. First year Grant Hu (Allen, Texas) took second in 4:03.02 followed by Huang in third (4:10.09).
  • MIT wrapped up the day with a win in the 200-free as Obochi, Martin, Thomas Wu, and first year Anthony Koh (Dresher, Pa.) clocked in with a time of 1:25.64.
UP NEXT: 
  • MIT returns home on Saturday, November 23 when the Engineers host Bowdoin for a 12:00 PM meet.
