ANNAPOLIS, MD. – The No. 16 MIT squash team opened play in the Navy Round Robin Tournament against No. 20 Navy at the Pager Family Squash Facility on Friday night. The Engineers dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to the Midshipmen.
 
THE BASICS:

• Scores: Navy 5, MIT 4
• Records: MIT (2-1), Navy (3-0) 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Navy grabbed 3-0 wins in the top three positions on the ladder.
• First year Zachary Starr (Dover, N.H.) got the Engineers on the board with a 8-11, 11-3, 11-0, 11-5 win in the seventh position.
• First year Sean-Winston Luo (Ringoes, NN.J.) helped hold off match point for the Midshipmen with a 3-1 win in the fourth ladder, and classmate Eddie Xue (Westport, Conn.) made it a 4-3 contest with a 3-1 victory in the eighth ladder.
• Navy grabbed the decisive fifth victory in a five-set match in the ninth position. Freshman Hudson Poirier (Wellesley, Mass.) defeated junior Lars Barkman (Pittsburgh, Pa.), 11-4, 7-11, 10-12, 14-12, 11-9.
• The final match of the evening also needed a decisive fifth set with junior Mitav Nayak (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) coming back from down two sets for the win.

UP NEXT:

• MIT will continue play at the Navy Round Robin tomorrow, Saturday, November 9 with a 2:00 PM contest against No. 13 Franklin and Marshall.
