NEW YORK, N.Y. – Three players reached double digits in scoring as the MIT women's basketball team defeated Swarthmore College, 56-48, in the final game of the Scholar's Classic hosted by NYU on Saturday. Senior
Kamsi Nwogu (Algonquin, Ill.) tallied 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Entering the second quarter tied at 10, Swarthmore went in front with a pair of free throws. First-year Libi Matityahoo (Yehud Monosson, Israel) replied with a three-pointer which sparked an 8-0 run that put MIT ahead for good with just under three minutes left in the frame. The Garnet rattled off six straight points, but Nwogu's layup gave the Engineers a 22-18 edge at halftime.
- Holding a 30-25 lead in the third quarter, a free throw by Nwogu kicked off an 11-2 run that spanned the last 4:20 of the period. Senior Elise Harvey (Wayland, Mass.) accounted for five points during the pivotal run.
- Two free throws by sophomore April Chan (Fremont, Calif.) 1:40 into the fourth quarter gave MIT its largest lead of the day at 43-27. Despite the deficit Swarthmore continued to attack, narrowing the gap to 51-46 with 52 seconds left. Matityahoo drained both free throw attempts during the Engineers' next possession, however, a foul sent the Garnet to the line where it hit both shots with 44 seconds on the clock. Harvey secured the victory courtesy of a three pointer with 26 seconds remaining.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Matityahoo totaled 16 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks while Harvey finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Junior Alice Hall (Ambler, Pa.) collected a game-high nine rebounds to go along with two blocks as senior Sarah Berman (York, Pa.) dished out three assists.
- This is the first meeting between both programs since 1987-88. MIT is now 2-3 all-time against the Garnet as the Engineers' previous victory was during the 1978-79 season.
