CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 17 MIT squash team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 match to No. 19 Amherst on Wednesday night on the Zesiger Center Squash Courts.
 
THE BASICS:

• Scores: No. 19 Amherst 5, No. 17 MIT 4
• Records: MIT (6-5), Amherst (4-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

• MIT jumped out to a 3-1 lead with 3-0 victories from junior Hyun Su Price (Philadelphia, Pa.) and first year Eddie Xue (Westport, Conn.), and a 3-1 win by graduate student Collin Wen (Short Hills, N.J.).
• The Mammoths made it a 3-2 contest as freshman Fares Khairy (Alexandria, Egypt) edged out first year Sean-Winston Luo (Ringoes, N.J.) in a five-set match in the fifth position, and a 3-0 win by sophomore Joesph Toth (Richmond, B.C.) in the fourth ladder tied the match at three.
• Sophomore Mero Elmarassy (Santa Clara, Calif.) put MIT back in the lead with a 3-1 lead in the one ladder, but Amherst tied it up as junior Grady Herbert (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) bested first year Zachary Starr in a five-set match in the eighth ladder.
• The match came down to the sixth ladder where junior Mitav Nayak (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and senior Matthew Granovsky (McLean, Va.) needed five sets to decide a winner. After Nayak took the first two sets, Granovsky won the next two before Nayak had to retire.  

UP NEXT:

• MIT will be off for the remainder of 2025 and returns to action on Thursday, January 16 for a 5:00 PM match against Boston College at the Zesiger Center Courts. The Mammoths are back on the courts Friday, December 6 for a 3:30 PM match at Dartmouth.
