CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 10 MIT men's swimming and diving team opened day one of the MIT Winter Invite with impressive finishes in the 800-free relay and the 1650-free.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:  

800 Free Relay 

• First year Grant Hu (Allen, Texas), graduate student Brian Li (Austin, Texas), sophomore Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and first year Nathan Kim (La Crescenta, Calif.) of the 'A' relay team took second in the event with a time of 6:38.95. Tufts won the event in 6:37.25. 
• Sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.), senior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.), first year Kelson Cantrell (Walnut Creek, Calif.), and first year Gidean Karp (The Woodlands, Texas) finished third with a time of 6:43.73. 

1650 Free 

• Sophomore John Tietjen (Leawood, Kan.) took fourth place with a time of 15:52.95. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• The 'A' relay is an NCAA B Cut mark and is faster than last year's invited time. 
• Tietjen was just two seconds off an NCAA B Cut time. 

UP NEXT:  

• The Engineers kick off day two of the Winter Invite, tomorrow, Saturday December 7 with the prelims at 10:00 AM. Diving will follow at 12:30 PM with the finals kicking off at 6:00 PM.
