BOSTON, Mass. -- The MIT men's track & field team kicked off the 2024-25 indoor season on Saturday at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
THE BASICS:
HOW IT HAPPENED – FIELD EVENTS:
- High Jump: Sophomore Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) topped the field, clearing 2.00m (6'6.75").
- Shot Put: Sophomore Justin Buonato (Horsham, Pa.) finished as the runner-up with a mark of 14.12m (46' 4").
- Long Jump: Junior Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) finished with a distance of 6.12m (20'1") to take 4th.
HOW IT HAPPENED – TRACK EVENTS:
- 60m Dash: MIT advanced three of eight runners from the prelims to the finals, where junior Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga ) claimed the top MIT time in 5th in 6.98 seconds. Junior Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.) finished 7th in 7.05 and sophomore Garrett Whitmore (Northville, Mich.) was 8th with a time of 7.05.
- Men's 400m: Sophomore Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.) finished 7th with a PR of 49.64. Lee was the top finisher among five MIT runners in the event.
- 60m Hurdles: Senior Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) finished in 8.25 to win the event.
- 800m Run: Sophomore Ayman Noreldaim (Iowa City, Iowa) was 14th in 1:59.51.
- 200m Dash: MIT placed four in the top ten, paced by Whitmore in 6th (22.68). Graduate student Will Liu (San Marino, Calif. ) was 7th (22.68), while Clement placed 9th (22.79) and Haertel took 10th (22.79).
- 300m Run: Junior Dylan Bradford (Highland, Md. ) was MIT's top finisher in 26th in 37.00.
- 4x400 Relay: Junior Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.), sophomore Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.), first year Wyatt Vick (Houston, Texas), and sophomore Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.) placed 3rd in 3:20.02.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Graduate student Paulo Martinez-Riviere (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) set a PR in the 60m Dash, finishing 60th in 7.18.
- The 4x400 relay ranks fourth in Division III and first in the region following the opening weekend of the season.
- Meng's mark in the high jump has him in the top-five nationally in the event.
- Haertel ranks 2nd in the region in the 60m, with Whitmore and Clement tied for sixth. Both Liu and Whitmore are among the top-ten in the 200m.
- Lee's 400m time is second in the region, with Sterling and Praizner also ranking in the top five.
