The Lead: The No. 19 MIT Squash team opened the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship with a 6-3 win over No. 22 Navy, but dropped a 9-0 match to hosts and No. 8 Drexel on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. NAVY:
- MIT raced out to a quick 4-0 lead with 3-0 wins from first year
John Gunton (Lawrenceville, N.J.), junior
Tom Hogan (Malvern, Pa.), senior
Nikhil Kakarla (Philadelphia, Pa.), and senior
Yos Wagenmans (Seattle, Wash.).
- Sophomore
Hyun Su Price (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave the Engineers the win with his five-set victory over
Henry Sparkman in the second ladder. After dropping the fourth set, Su Price took the fifth set by a decisive 11-3 score.
- Another sweep in the sixth ladder by
Bobby Albani (Newton Square, Pa.) gave MIT a 6-0 advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. DREXEL:
- Drexel dropped just two sets in the 9-0 win.
- Su Price took the first set 11-9 against
Haris Qasim in the second ladder while Gunton also grabbed a set one win (11-4) in the third position.
UP NEXT:
- MIT will take on No. 17 Franklin and Marshall tomorrow, Sunday, February 12th at 12 p.m. in the third-place match.
