The Lead: The 10th-ranked MIT men's swimming and diving team sits in second place after day one of the 2024 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The Engineers 800-free relay team broke the NEWMAC Meet and Open record with their win.

800-Yard Free Relay
- Senior Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.), senior Jaden Luo (Austin, Texas), sophomore Eugene Jiang (Baton Rouge, La.), and senior Brian Li (Austin, Texas) captured first place with a time of 6:36.07, just over three seconds ahead of runner-up U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

- Obochi led off the relay with a time of 1:38.25 and Luo had the fastest split of the relay with a time of 1:37.87.

- The Engineers broke the NEWMAC Meet record by .53 seconds, the NEWMAC Open record by .72 seconds, earned an NCAA B cut, and posted a 2023 invited time.

- This was the second time in three years Obochi, Luo, and Li were members of a record-breaking 800 free relay.

- The time is currently the eighth-fastest in the country.

3-Meter Diving
- First year Jack Tucker (Naples, Fla.) finished in fourth with a score of 397.30.
UP NEXT:

- Day two of the NEWMAC Championship will begin on Friday, Feb. 23 with prelims at 10:00 a.m., followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m. Scheduled events include: the 200-free relay, 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free, and the 400-medley relay.
