- The Lead: The MIT men's swimming and diving team took over the top spot with four event wins on the second day of the 2024 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
200-Free Relay
- MIT opened day two with a dominating win in the 200-free as the team of senior Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.), first year Bryce Roberts (Mill Valley, Calif.), sophomore Eugene Jiang (Baton Rouge, La.), and sophomore Evan Liu (Woodbury, N.Y.) touched the wall in 1:19.71.
- The time is almost two seconds faster than the 2023 invited time and missed a pool record by .32 seconds.
- Obochi, Roberts, and Jiang all swam sub-20 times while Liu clocked in at exactly 20 seconds.
- The time is currently the third fastest in the country.

500-Free
- First year Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took bronze with a time of 4:32.08 for a new personal best time.
- Senior Brian Li (Austin, Texas) finished right behind Wagner in fourth with a mark of 4:32.38.
- First year John Tietjen (Leawood, Kan.) rounded out the top five with a time of 4:35.15.

200 IM
- MIT swept the top-four spots led by Luo who defended his title with a time of 1:48.59. He dropped two seconds off his prelim time.
- First year Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) came in second (1:49.32), followed by junior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.) in third (1:49.77).
- First year Aitor Arrese-Igor (Delray Beach, Fla.) touched the wall in fourth with a time of 1:50.42, and senior Aaron Zhu (Chelmsford, Mass.) came in sixth with a time of 1:51.22.
- Luo and Wang swam faster marks than the 2023 invited times and Huang and Aresse-Igor both recorded B Cuts.

Â
- Obochi won his third consecutive title in the event with a time of 20.11.
- Jiang finished second in 20.54 with Roberts in fourth (20.66).
- Obochi's time is faster than the 2023 Invited time.

400-Medley Relay
- MIT ended the day just like they opened it, with another relay victory. Sophomore Zack West (Kailua, Hawaii) led off with a 49.34 in the back and Obochi brought the win home with a time of 42.72. The team also included junior Jacob McCarran (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Roberts and totaled a time of 3:14.37.
- The time is faster than the 2023 Invited time and ranks seventh in the nation.

- Action continues Saturday, February 24th at 10 am with prelims. Finals begin at 6pm with the 400 IM followed by the 100-Butterfly, 200-Free, 100-Breast, 100-Back, 1-Meter Dive and the 200-Medley relay.
