THE BASICS:

- The Lead: For the 15th consecutive season and 18th time overall, the MIT men's swimming and diving team are NEWMAC Championships as the Engineers won 14 events, including every relay, en route to a 587.5-point win over Coast Guard.
 
Senior Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.) posted two individual wins and was a member of five relay-winning teams as he won his third straight NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year award.
 
First year Bryce Roberts (Mill Valley, Calif.) won the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year as he was a member of three relay victories and earned one individual gold. He also took fourth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100-free.
 
 
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:

1650-Free

• First year John Tietjen (Leawood, Kan.) recorded an NCAA B Cut with his second-place time of 15:46.99. Classmate Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished third in 15:56.77.

 
200-Back

• MIT swept the top four spots led by sophomore Zack West (Kailua, Hawaii) who posted the top time of 1:48.08. Senior Aaron Zhu (Chelmsford, Mass.) followed with a time of 1:49.77.
• First year Aitor Arrese-Igor (Delray Beach, Fla.) finished third with a time of 1:9.98 followed by classmate Jake Geoghegan (Great Falls, Va.) with a mark of 1:50.05.
• West posted an NCAA B Cut time.

 
100-Free

• After swimming the fastest time in DIII in the prelims (43.40) senior Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.) kept up the pace with a 43.76 time in the finals to earn his third-straight win in the event. His time is faster than the 2023 Invited time.
• Senior Jaden Luo (Austin, Texas) took third with a B Cut time of 45.08.
• Sophomore Eugene Jiang (Baton Rouge, La.) finished fifth with a time of 45.34 followed by first year Bryce Roberts (Mill Valley, Calif.) in sixth (45.37) and senior Arnold Su (Irvine, Calif.) in seventh (45.55).

 
200-Breast

• Junior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.) won his third consecutive goal with an NCAA B Cut time of 2:01.39.
• Junior Jacob McCarran (Pittsburgh, Pa.) took fifth with a time of 2:04.49.

 
200-Fly

• The top two spots belonged to MIT first years Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Nathan Zhu (Lexington, Ky.). Wang clocked in with a time of 1:50.70, and Zhu finished in 1:52.53 as he used a strong final lap to take second.
• Junior Jalen Evans (Danville, Calif.) finished in fourth with a time of 1:53.23.

 
400-Free Relay

• With now the third fastest time in the nation, the Engineers concluded the meet with a win in the relay.
• Obochi led off the race followed by Luo and Su, whose swim helped the team pull away from Coast Guard. Jiang anchored the team and touched the wall at 2:56.57, almost six seconds ahead of the team from Coast Guard.
