- Records: MIT (5-3), Brandeis (4-4)

- Location: Waltham, Mass. (Stein Diamond)

- The Lead: Senior Karl Meyer (Indianapolis, Ind.) registered 10 strikeouts, and classmate Michael Finch (Brentwood, Tenn.) hit two home runs as the MIT baseball team defeated Brandeis 9-1 in a road non-conference game on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Graduate student Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) singled home senior Teddy Schoenfeld (Torrance, Calif.) for the first run of the day in the fourth, and he came around to score the second run of the inning on a throwing error. Sophomore Zev Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) singled home the third run of the inning for the Engineers.

- With two outs in the fifth, graduate student Jake Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) singled to right center to plate first year Louis Hernandez (Windsor, Conn.) and give MIT a 4-0 lead. Finch made it 5-0 with his solo shot in the sixth.

- Meyer dazzled on the mound as he allowed just two hits through seven innings. The Judges finally got to Meyer in the seventh when Jake Freed homered to make it 5-1.

- MIT added two runs in the eighth, and Finch hit his second homer of the day to seal the 9-1 win for the Engineers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Meyer went eight and allowed just one run on four hits. He walked none and struck out a career-high 10 batters to improve to 2-0.

- Finch recorded his second multi-homer game of the year as he went 2-5 with a team-leading three RBI.

- Jake Sonandres and Kyle Sonandres both finished with two hits in the game.
