Baseball Powers Past New England College, 16-3

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 16, New England College - 3

- Records: MIT (6-3), New England College (1-10)

- Location: Fran O'Brien Field (Cambridge, Mass.)

- The Lead: The MIT baseball team put up 16 runs, including 13 unanswered, to power past New England College in the Engineers 2024 home opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Pilgrims wasted no time in taking a 1-0 lead after the first. Sophomore Eitan Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) tied the game in second, however, NEC quickly regained the lead in the top of the third on an RBI single.
 
- A single from senior Tyler Godfrey (Rowley, Mass.) tied the game in the fourth, and senior Reed Tubbs' (Pflugerville, Texas) double to center gave the Engineers their first lead of the game. The Pilgrims then tied the game in the fifth on an RBI groundout.
 
- A five-run fifth, highlighted by a two-run double from Eitan Moore, put MIT up 8-3.
 
- The Engineers extended their lead in the seventh as six runs crossed the plate to make it 14-3. Tubbs secured the win with his two-run homer that reflected the final score of 16-3.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- MIT outhit the Pilgrims 19-8 as nine Engineers recorded a hit in the game. Sophomore Zev Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) led the way with four hits and added two RBI with three runs scored. Eitan Moore finished 2-4 with three runs and three RBI.
 
- Tubbs finished 3-5 with a team-leading four RBI. Senior Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) went 3-4 with an RBI in the lead-off spot.
 
- Junior Brian Rapanan (Gurnee, Ill.) moved to 1-0 on the year as he threw five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He walked one batter and struck out a career-high eight.

-  MIT returns to the diamond on Monday, March 18th for a 3:30 p.m. game against UMass Boston.
