Tobe Obochi (Highland Park, Ill.) won his second career individual National Championship with a victory in the 50 Free as the MIT men's swimming and diving team opened a successful day one at the 2024 NCAA DIII Swimming and Diving Championships.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
50-Free
- Obochi won the event with a time of 19.66 as he just defeated Djordje Dragolovic of Kenyon by .03 of a second.
- The time is the second fastest in MIT history.
- Obochi earned his second individual National Championship and fourth overall.
200-Medley Relay
- The Engineers team of sophomore Theo Chen (Plano, Texas), senior Jaden Luo (Austin, Texas), first year Bryce Roberts (Mill Valley, Calif.), and Obochi took seventh with a time of 1:27.95.
- The team improved on their prelim time of 1:28.52.
- Chen and Roberts earned their first All-American honors, Luo is now nine-time All-American, and Obochi collected his 14th honor.
UP NEXT:
- Day two kicks off with the prelims at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. The Engineers are scheduled to compete in the 200-Fee Relay, 100-Fly, 200-Free, and the 400 Medley Relay.
